Artist Statement: This piece is a digital drawing with an original poem overlaid that explores the ingrained societal expectation of women to fill the role of nurturer and non-monetary provider within relationships, be they romantic or familial. Like in an unbalanced relationship, the blood orange woman lets her body be consumed the same way that fruits are plucked to extinction.
Rebecca Thrush works in property management in Massachusetts. Through poetry and art she explores the inherent similarities between nature and interpersonal relationships.
